I Am No Rock

Sometimes I feel steady and sturdy like a rock

Not everlasting, not never changing, but sitting -
still & calm & strong,
admitting when I’m wrong & sharing honest talk

Sometimes I feel dumb and dirty like a rock

I can be quite simple & a bit filthy
then it’s true – this suits me, this fits me.
Though I know no rock who can add fifteen to fifty
or cares to even try

Sometimes I feel free and pure like a rock

Not disengaged, but disassembled -
steeped in content,
as though the world and I are built to last

But I am no rock because I am blessed with breath!
Bended by buoyant brothers,
softened by song-full mothers -
made mostly of mud and magic
